Aliens Cricket Club - Won by 32 runs
The Aliens clawed their way into the top three of Division 1 post their win against Drammen Cricket Klubb, played at the ‘picturesque’ Rommen cricket ground on the 21st of June, 2015. It all began earlier in the day when the Drammen captain decided to have a bowl after winning the toss. The decision was a pleasant one for the Aliens as they had won their previous two games chasing.
The opening pair of Dave and Marcus once again provided a steady start, up until Marcus was caught behind for 18. Jamie was then bowled by Drammen’s best bowler Yaseen for 9. That brought Dennis to the crease with the score on 50/2 in 12 overs. Dennis played the way he has always played – taking the attack to the bowlers. Dave was steadily accumulating at the other end when he edged one to the keeper, as well, off Yaseen for a well made 35. Entered the skipper of Aliens, Damon, who has been the backbone of the batting order this season and he showed once again why he is the best in the middle order. Dennis’ wicket brought Chris to the middle but got out the second ball he faced. This brought Simon (going back to check the spelling!!) Gazdowicz to the crease. Both Simon and Damon scored steadily up until the skipper was caught by Ibrar at mid off with the score at 181, still 19 adrift of the psychological barrier of 200. Ryan, playing his first game of the season, was unlucky in getting run out without facing a ball – the ball ricocheting of the hands of the bowler to the stumps at the non-strikers end. Ahmad and Simon made sure that there were no more casualities and that the Aliens posted a healthy 205 for Drammen to chase.
The Aliens started of their defence in fine fashion, reducing the Drammen score to 26 for the loss of 3 wickets in 8 overs, the skipper being spot on, claiming all the three wickets. Mohabbat and Sajid tried to build up a partnership of sorts, but the former was quickly snapped up by David Kuhlwilm and the latter by Benan John. Ibrar (50 of 41 balls, 7x4, 1x6) tried to scare for a while, but was snaffled up by Dennis. The Drammen’s folded up for 173. Aliens secured their third victory on the trot.
Notable performances:
allround effort from the skipper Damon Crawford (41 and 4/14),
David Kuhlwilm chipped in also with an allround effort (35 and 2/25),
Simon Gazdowicz (40) and
Dennis Peter (1/28 off 7).
The victory augured well for the remaining of the season!
