We had a couple random youngsters show up at training on Wednesday that looked like they might be handy players in the future. As a result the Aliens top order took a new look with the inclusion of Damien Shortis and Will Barton.

The first ball of the innings narrowly missing Wills off stop had the selectors worried that they had thrown Will in too early. The openers were finding scoring difficult with Alna getting the opening wicket in the 8th over with the score on 28.

This brought Jamie to the crease and seemed to kick Will into gear. The shots started flowing for him showing great time all around the ground. As he went past 50 he went up a notch and starting dispatching the bowlers with increasing regularity. He was brought undone just shy of his century, a wonderful 98 from 79.

At the other end Jamie was not to be outdone and was also playing a very free flowing innings dispatching the increasingly despondant Alna attack for countless boundaries. Jamie however also had hundred phobia and was dismissed for 84 going for it at the end.. Will and Jamie had put on something like 124 runs together and really set up Aliens for a great total. It should be noted that despite Will being left handed and not wearing a helmet, Jamie being right handed and with a lid that the scorer made quite a few mistakes but with the rapid scoring he probably had a sore hand.

Will being dismissed brought Damien to the crease who never looked troubled by the demoralized Alna side and cruised to 29 of 25 bringing the Aliens to a season high total of 246 of their allotted 35 overs. I’m not sure what Alna said at the break but it seemed like it must have been more about their pressing engagement later that afternoon than the run chase as the two openers very promptly ran themselves out in the second over to put Alna on the back foot from the very start.

The Aliens bowlers were well supported in the field and the wickets follow at regular intervals and Alna never really looked in the hunt. All bowlers bowled very economically.. Dennis, Steve and Ahmad each got 2 (with us finally holding onto some catches of Ahmads bowling!) with Damon 1 and Boxy getting the last wicket to finish the game off with Alna only managing 79 runs.

A great team effort. Lots of runs on the board after some tight early bowling then a great bowling fielding performance earned us our first win for the year after improving with each game.
