Div 2 Round 4: Aliens Vs Minhaj
When: 05 June
Where: Ekeberg
Minhaj Cricket Club 165/9 (30.0 ov)
Aliens Cricket Club 101/10 (26.3 ov)
Minhaj Cricket Club - Won by 64 runs
After 2 games of cricket played in rather grey and miserable weather Aliens were greeted with some glorious sunshine up at Ekeberg. Also hoping that this may result in an upswing in our fortunes on the field as well!
Minhaj won the toss and elected to bat. Minhaj were keen to run the quick singles early but this resulted in a run out courtesy of some great work from Steve in the covers. Great start for the Aliens.
The opening bowlers didn’t have much luck and Minhaj were slowly building until Dennis brought himself on and a great catch from Mitch behind the wickets brought up the second wicket and an early leader for catch of the season.
Some more great bowling in the middle overs had Minhaj in trouble at 5-50. Special note to a great high catch from Toufiq of Steve’s bowling. Steve in the end producing great figures of 4-26 off his 6 overs.
Minhaj however batted quite well in the second half to make a good but chaseable total of 165.
Aliens opened with Dave and Toufiq who got off to a decent start. Just as Toufiq started to time the ball he perhaps got a little overconfident and was caught for 18. Out of form Damon and captain Dennis continued their lean run with the bat and aliens were on the back foot at 3-42 but still in with a shot. Steve came to the crease and started finding the middle until a rather dubious lbw decision sent him back to the pavilion.
From here Aliens again struggled to build partnerships. With opener Dave caught trying to lift the run rate the total became a long way off. Arif playing his first game for Aliens scored his first runs for us and remained not out as Aliens were dismissed for 101.
Another disappointing effort with the bat. Too many good batters not making enough runs. This will need to be sorted out before our season picks itself up. It will happen we just have to stay positive!
