The game against Stars turned out to be a pretty gloomy affair. Rain played spoilsport for the latter part of the match but couldn’t stop the inevitable. Earlier in the day, Alien’s skipper David Kuhlwilm won the toss and decided to bat first on a Stubberdmyra pitch, whose outfield seemed like a racecourse for the Indian bulls. It was the slowest outfield that you could imagine, probably more slower than the ones you see in Jamaica. Waqar and Mitch started off the affairs, where both looked pretty scratchy against some incisive outswing bowling by Star’s spearhead, Adnan Butt, who had them both in successive overs and looked hungry for more.

But Dennis and Jamie had other plans and both looked solid while at their stay on the crease. Dennis was severe on their off spinner Gulfam Butt, taking him downtown twice in the 17th over and with a bit aid from the wind. Jamie survived early on, with a nick that evaded the keeper and the 1st slip and then seemed elegant during his course on the pitch. At the end of the 20th over, aliens were well placed at 104 for the loss of Mitch and Waqar, when as always in cricket, a drinks break helps lose the set batsmen’s concentration. The quick wickets of Jamie, caught of a leading edge for a well made 49 and Dennis being adjudged leg before for 38, paved the way for a total collapse and the scoreboard halted at 138 eventually.

Needing 139 to win, Dennis who opened the bowling alongside Waqar, induced a false shot from Adeel Qazi, which skied towards Boxy who held on despite the distraction by the batsman. Damon cleaned up Waheed for 23 and then the second change bowler Mitchell Collins de Beurs struck in succession to get the Star’s reduced to 71 for the loss of 4 wickets aided by some intelligent thinking from the part of the skipper to bring in Waqar from long-on to mid-on and also helped by a diving Dennis to take an amazing catch at short leg. Star’s Parminder and Gulfam made sure that there were no more casualities and led the stars on to an easy victory.

With the loss, Aliens were pushed to the bottom of the table and needs to pull their socks up to retain their place in the Elite league. Next match is scheduled to be on the 27th of July.
