Second game out for the Aliens saw them take on a strong Christiania side. Once again the match started well for the Aliens with captain Kuhlwilm calling the toss right and choosing to insert their opponents. Opening bowlers Damon and Waqar, playing their first games of the season weren’t quite on top form (and weren’t helped by a stack of dropped catches), and were made to pay as openers Bhatti(36) and Mizra(54) got their side off to a flier. Waqar(1-41) picked up the first breakthrough as Steve finally held onto one of the many chances that had been presented. Another partnership then developed between Mizra and Saeed as chances continued to hit the turf with alarming regularity. This partnership was finally broken when Mitch(1-19) cleaned up Mizra in what was beginning to feel like the only possible mode of dismissal for the bowlers. The Christiania batsmen continued to cash in on their good fortune as Khanchi(41), Mir (38) and Rehman (64) carried them to just short of 300 in their 40 overs. Once again the aliens attack had a tough time of it with only Waqar escaping with an economy rate of less than 6.

In reply Aliens got off to a flier with Will(64) peppering the boundaries, but unfortunately the rest of the top order couldn’t match him and with it becoming an increasingly unlikely chase he also then perished while trying to take the game to the bowlers. There was still time for Damon (41) and Mitch (20) to add some respectability to the scorecard before a second rush of wickets saw the last 5 wickets go down in double quick time as the innings was wrapped up for 178. While the batting was a much better effort than in the opening week, the number of chances given to the opposition batsmen meant that we were chasing a far higher total than we should have been, but if nothing else that gives us a pretty clear indication of what we need to work on before the coming games.
