Aliens went out to bat first in this encounter that had been marked down as one to win.Things didn't get off to a great start however with one of our openers being removed cheaply. Things steadied with Waqar coming to the crease before he was run out for 11. Damien Shortis came to the crease after a while out of the game. He found it difficult to get going and was dismissed by a sharp catch in a weird sort of deep slip position for 4.
Jamie Cameron then came to the crease to combine with Marcus to start building a partnership and get the Aliens innings going. Apparently the just over 4 runs an over wasn't enough and Marcus took the strange tactic of observing seasonal bird migrations whilst trying to hit the ball and was out for a handy 24. Mal looked to continue things on in the same vein before also being caught for 12 in gully.
The rebuilding began again as Jamie started to play more freely timing the ball well. Damon C was supporting Jamie until he was brought undone trying to pull and gave the Nation fielder some easy catching practice to be out for 22.
Soon after Jamie was out for a well made 49 (ouch). Aliens were still hoping for a decent total with some runs from the lower order, however quick wickets fell leaving Dave K not on 10*.
Aliens therefore setting Nation 150 for the win.
Despite the below par total Aliens were still hopeful of a tight bowling performance to take the win.Nation openers got a off to a good start taking the attack to the Aliens openers Waqar and Damon. The attacking mindset did bring about a wicket to Waqar to give the Aliens a sniff. The remaining opener Adeel Bhatti kept on attacking though with a few big hits around the ground giving him 64.
Things looked to be running away from the Aliens until the skipper Dave K came on and bowled really tight keeping the run rate right down and more importantly, garnering 4 vital wickets (4-26). This was backed up by some tight M. Lyon bowling at the other end.Aliens needed 4 more wickets with not many runs left to get. Damon got a breakthrough in the final overs but some sensible batting by Zeeshan Siddiqui from Nation (25) with his lower order avoiding the aliens fate earlier in the day to see Nation home with 2 wickets to spare.
A good fighting performance in the field but in what seems to be a theme we needed another 20-30 runs off the bat to make it more defendable. If we manage to bat out our 40 overs in matches we'll go along way towards beating sides like Nation in the future.
