Game 4: Aliens vs Grønland
Where: Bærum
1st Innings
It was an uncharacteristically magnificent day at the BCG, with the Norwegian sun blazing down on an unusually dry outfield. Having selected a team with a high concentration of Australians, our intrepid captain wins the toss and sends the Aliens into the field.
After a steady first five overs, Dennis finally decides to take a wicket, but the opposition seem immune to the pace of the opening pair. He then sticks one of the other aussies (the one that bowls spin) on to bowl. The aussie then proceeds to take 4 wickets on the trot. Presumably he has mistaken the hot dry conditions for his native land. Bennan holds up the other end with a decent spell.
Some overs are bowled in the middle. Just before it looks like Aliens might go a whole day without dropping a catch one of the older australians puts one down, just to protect the record.
Not wanting to be outdone by the gangly aussie, Dennis sticks himself back on and promptly takes a fiver. Cleaning up the opposition for 144 after 28 overs.
2nd Innings
Clearly delirious from the heat, the captain sends in not one, but two aussies to open the batting. In all the confusion, the older aussie ends up out in the middle but because he thinks he is at the MCG, he just stays out there. The two put on a decent opening stand, before the younger edges one.
Shahabaz goes out to the middle and returns moments later.
This results is yet another aussie being put in to bat. Who knows which one at this point?
The aussies bat on for some time and in the process one of the older ones cops a “bouncer” on the elbow.
Peter asks, legitimately, if a batsmen can retire from old age in the middle of an innings. The old fellow stops us from finding out by getting out an over or so later.
It’s around this time, in the middle of the heat of the day, that a faint glimmer of sympathy for the fasting opposition flutters around the Aliens dugout. It disappears almost immediately.
Dennis arrives at the crease and the pair finish off the remaining runs in 25 overs handing the Aliens a 7 wicket victory.
The team convenes at the Viking burger truck for celebratory burgers.
