League Match 6: Aliens vs Strømsø Cricket Club
An early morning for Aliens as we made the trip out to Drammen for the early game.
We were however greeted with some great weather, definitely a novelty so far this season.
Our opposition though were quite late to the ground despite it being a home game for them . Meaning that the game lost 4 overs and Strømsø got an 18 run penalty.
Aliens lost the toss and were put into bat. In the first over as a “noble” gesture we decided to even out the penalties given to Strømsø - by losing 2 wickets.
Dennis started to get things going before Strømsø brought on their young leg spinner who bowled a decent ball to trap Dennis in front.
Harry came to the crease and with Damon put on a 50+ run partnership and get Aliens up to 130ish. Damon was then out for 40 trying to up the run rate.
In the remaining overs Harry kept things going but we lost regular wickets and were able to really kick on. Harry was eventually out for 39.
With bonus points on offer Arif faced out their opening bowler so we posted 9/164. The penalty runs helping along with the copious amounts of wides delivered by the opposition. However it was a very slow outfield so 165 was a decent target to set.
The Aliens openers bowled tight in the first couple overs. From then on It was the Mark Snowdon show who ripped through the Strømsø top order. Collecting wonderful figures of 5 wickets for 7 from his 6 overs. He was well backed up in the field with some good catching particularly by Mitch behind the stumps and Chris in the deep to remove some danger batsmen.
The rest of the overs Aliens still bowled quite tight, not giving too many extras and in the field we continued to back up the bowlers well. With the required run rate rising and wickets kept falling…..
Benan taking 2/20, Damon and Chris taking 1 each along with Branson coming on to take his first Aliens league wicket.
In the end we bowled them out for 100 to round out a comfortable victory.We need to be a bit better and building partnerships with the bat and maybe work on some running between the wickets but generally, A good team effort by the Aliens getting ourselves a well earned victory.
